The Pilgrim’s Plunge

You give them drink from the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light (Psalm 36:8b-9)

To meditate on the incarnational work of Almighty God is like plunging into the depths of an infinite River, knowing that we'll never uncover all the mysteries, and knowing that even over a lifetime of immersion we'll only be swimming around in the shallows. Yet daily we dive deeper. Daily, we yearn for more. Daily, we pray with Moses, “LORD, show me Your glory!”, and trust that after each plunge, once we’ve risen again to the surface, our hearts will be full to overflowing.

While I welcome readers from all walks of life, let me clarify up front that I’m Christian by the grace of Jesus Christ, protestant by conviction, and ecumenical by nature. My hermeneutical approach in this endeavor is more impressionistic than academic, meaning that the footnotes to these musings are often mountainsides rather than manuscripts, but I do hold a B.S. in Biblical Studies, an M.A. in Ancient History, an unfinished M.A. in English, and another unfinished M.A. in Philosophy. Although my goal is to keep political convictions and current-event commentary away from these impressions, I won’t hide the fact that I’m conservative in most areas, an ardent proponent of moral law explicated through nature and scripture, and an advocate of the nuclear family as the primary covenantal and political force established by God.

C.S. Lewis often eulogized Scottish writer George Macdonald for 'baptizing' his imagination, and I pray that these streams-of-contemplation have a similar immersive effect on yours. After deep-diving into the biblical meditations, take a quick dip into the ‘Philosophotography’ and ‘Wit and Whimsy’ sections for a bit of tongue-in-cheek philosophy and good clean parody. Then, sample some of my recent songs under ‘Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs’, or just head straight over to Spotify or Apple Music to stream them directly.

A Parting Request

All meditations are completely free to read, so please enjoy, subscribe, and share with others. If, over time, however, you find these devotionals to be an encouraging aid to your own life of faith, consider investing in my work with a monthly financial contribution. As a husband and father of three young children, I’m praying for ways to take my writing and art to new depths, and your contributions will certainly help. Think of it as my two cents for yours! Thank you, and blessings in Christ.
